Styling Trends & Tips for Online Weddings
Although virtual, weddings will still be about choosing the perfect style and colour palette – complimenting blends of white or ivory, soft pastels or bold shades, textures and florals. It is important to take into account that your BIG day will be viewed by an online audience. Below are some trends and tips that we have seen emerge with the onset of Online Weddings. They are sure to best engage your virtual guests and perfectly capture your special moments!
Creating an Online Experience from the Get-Go
Platforms for this have existed for a while now but have become increasingly popular during these unprecedented times. Using evites from websites like Paperless Post and Greenvelope can help get your perfectly designed personalised save the date/invitations in your colour palette out to guests while allowing you to track attendees to your online event as well as share details for guests to view your BIG Day! These platforms also allow group messaging and the ability to send out Thank you notes post your wedding. Gift registry links can also be shared. Add a tune and you truly are creating a magical experience from the inception and in the lead up to your special day!
Backdrops, Styling Accents & Florals
If you have booked an indoor or outdoor venue to celebrate your wedding day, it is key to view the space at the time of the intended wedding to see how the natural light adds to the space along with venue lighting (if indoor).
This can then determine what styling elements you include and what colour works best with your theme and complements the venue/outdoor space aesthetic. It may be worthwhile having your AV Company present at this time as well to test camera angles and lighting. They can work in tandem with your Stylist.
Because you are styling for camera, styling elements can definitely be included in the background and the foreground as well.
Using large foliage and bold structured florals is also key to create elements that stand out, especially to catch the eye of your online guests. In saying this they need to not overshadow you or overpower the other décor accents but be a subtly blend in.
Keeping the backgrounds fuller than usual by adding depth with elements and not flat up against the wall will enhance the overall frame. Accents can also be placed further towards the camera.
With outdoor spaces using existing elements with floral touches is quite on trend. If these don’t exist in the area you’ve chosen, simply framing a magnificent view is the way to go!
Style that Aisle
Keeping in mind that the camera will capture your entry from the back of the room, styling accents at the entrance and along the aisle are a must have. Carpet runners, aisle scatters, candles in cylinder vases and lanterns are simple yet very effective. These will aid in capturing your walk down the aisle in a perfectly styled frame.
The Signing Table
Post your big moment, remember to ensure your signing table is placed within the backdrop of your frame. Because this will be placed within the frame for the Ceremony, ensure it balances with the background and complements the colours used.
Rather than using a low table, high tables are recommended so that the focus always remains at the same height and captures the entire frame. However with Outdoor Venues using the natural backdrop may still be possible and will enhance the overall ambience of the Ceremony.
Adding background music during the Ceremony is also a nice way to create a romantic atmosphere. Depending on the platform you are using this can be run live or added to a captured video at a later stage. The songs can be favourites from your road trip playlist or one that would’ve been your first dance as husband and wife. In saying that nothing can hold you back from truly having that moment after the formalities have been completed. We are certain the guests would love nothing more than to see you two shake a leg!
Again, based on what abilities the platform has simple screen sharing games like Bride and Groom Trivia, Couple’s Crossword and of course the ‘Wedding Shoe Game’ can add a bit of fun and laughs to the event.
Sharing & Commenting
Some platforms will allow guests to leave messages and comments during the event. These are lovely for you two to look back on. They can be added on sliders at the bottom of your final wedding edit so guests can truly feel that they shared ‘live’ on your big day!
A Bridal Video Message
A nice personal touch would be to leave guests with a video message either live on the day or pre shot to thank them for taking the time to share in your special day and of course to stay safe during this time because when it is all done a celebration with lots of champagne to look forward to is due!
Our dedicated team of Stylists are happy to help ensure these are tailored to your vision and budget in keeping with the current guidelines. We do hope we can be a part of making your special day everything you had hoped for and more!
